after installing Matlab R2017a on Ubuntu I cannot set the path. I get the error "Undefined function or variable 'pathtool'

- When I click on "Set Path" I get the message "Undefined function or variable 'pathtool'". If I type "path" at the prompt I get a long list with paths, so it seems the path is ok - What can I do?

I had the same when installing 2017a after 2016b. The answer also solved my case. (OpenSuse 42.2)
Thank you.

Execute the following statements in MATLAB to resolve this issue:
>> restoredefaultpath
>> rehash toolboxcache
>> savepath
Please note that this will restore MATLAB to default paths, removing custom added paths.
