Recognizing webcam in Mac OS X Lion

I have a Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 webcam, which I would like to get working with with MATLAB on my Mac computer. MATLAB recognizes the built-in webcam on the computer, but I cannot get it to find the webcam. Does anyone know how I might be able to add this webcam? Thanks

Hi peter,
Have you figured out a solution to this problem? Because I'm running into the same problem with a Logitech c270 webcam. I tried using the webcam with several other applications, and they all worked fine. But when I tried to read the webcam from Matlab, it automatically detect and select my built-in camera, instead of the external webcam. Thank you.
I have the same problem - albeit with a Snow leopard operating system. I would be VERY grateful if anyone who has figured out how to connect to an external webcam were to share their solution with me. Many thanks.
Hi Joan, Unfortunately, I never found a solution for this problem. I think my issue came from the fact that I had a Microsoft camera, and Microsoft didn't release a driver for Mac. I haven't looked into it in the past year, so there could be a fix now, but I ended up needing to use bootcamp to get the camera to work unfortunately. A different brand of camera might work too
