If your problem is about the milliliters, replace them by e.g. apples and check out that it all makes sense.

1 cup can store 4 apples. You get 3 cups, how many apples does that represent?

Once you are clear about how that works on paper, try to implement it programmatically. Don't start on the keyboard wondering what you have to type for having the correct answer. First understand on paper. Once you are clear about the approach, try to reproduce using MATLAB code.
