From cartesian to polar plot

Hi,
Can anyone help me to generate a plot in "polar" coordinate?
I have a curve shown in red (see the plot below). The x-axis is running from 0-360degree and the y-axis is just some numbers--here I have assumed it to be sinusoidal.
Now, suppose I want to produce another plot with similar dataset but the x-axis is to be displayed in "polar"coordinate.
I expect, in polar coordinate, the red curve will look like an ellipse.
I would appreciate any ideas.
thanks.

I am aware of these two functions, but it seems that my problem is more about plotting technique while these two functions would actually alter my dataset.
I want to plot exactly the same dataset but in different "style"
