loading a text file to GUI need help

iam trying to load a text file to gui to analyze the arrays in by using LOAD function but it keep showing error - is the load function correct or the are other function to load the text files to GUI????????
here is the begining of my code
load instru.txt
channels = instru(:,1);
totcounts = instru(:,2);
t=strnum(get(handles.edit1,string'));
x1=strnum(get(handles.edit2,string'));
x2=strnum(get(handles.edit3,string'));
y1=strnum(get(handles.edit4,string'));
y2=strnum(get(handles.edit5,string'));
totcounting = totcounts/t;
m=(y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1);
b=(y1-m*x1);
for V= 1 : size(channels)
enrgy = m*channels + b;
end
enrgy =1:200;
plot(handles.axes1,enrgy,totcounting);
