I'm sure it's an old question.
Every time I download (only) to install on work computers & home.
Every time, I search & search & do not find how to install from the downloaded files.
I get so many about how to download without installing, but then what?
I know I've seen it somewhere, but where?
Every time I run setup & am pretty sure it's downloading it all again.
I just want to save the download, do the net login install, activation, ... &c. &c.
Anyone point me to the instructions to install from previously downloaded files?
Anyone able to get the instruction in some prominent place?

Use the initial installer you download from MATLAB, and tell it to download only, indicating which operating system, and indicating a download directory.
Now, inside the directory of what was downloaded, there will be another installer. When you run that installer, it will install from the saved files.

I have no idea what you are doing or the problems you are having.
NOTE: This applies to Windows.
I had to do this today because the installer for R2018a would not run on this laptop for some reason. I downloaded R2018a and all my toolboxes to a USB drive (16GB microSD card) on another computer (using the Download Only option), then when that was complete, put the microSD card in this computer, opened File Explorer, opened the volume that corresponded to the microSD card, clicked on the setup file, and after completing the license agreement and logging in (this computer is connected through my home WiFi to the Internet), the installation proceeded normally, if more slowly than I had expected. I then activated it normally.
I now have R2018a running and open on this computer.
If you have a startup.m file, after you have successfully installed MATLAB R2018a, save a copy of it to ‘C:\Users\-username-\MATLAB\’ rather than in ‘C:\Program Files\MATLAB\-version-\toolbox\local’ as was necessary for the past several releases.
