Cursor invisible on 4k screen

My new laptop has a 3840x2160 screen resolution which is great, but I have great difficulty seeing the text insert cursor in the Matlab editor. I think the default cursor must be only 1 pixel wide and this makes it so thin that it is almost invisible. I can't see any way of configuring it.
Has anyone else come across this problem?
Has anyone found a solution?
