Greyscale Multiple discreet Random Variables and plotting them on a timeline

Hi,
I am trying to create a greyscale time series plot with 36 Random Variables binned in 20 compartments. I would like to assign a grey shade to each of the 20 compartments for all the 36 variables and plot them on a timeline.
