How to calibrate entirety of photo with checkboard?

I am attempting to calibrate an image using Matlab's image checkboard calibration program. The image is of a flume (I atteched a photo in the post). The checkboard which we are using covers the width of the flume but only covers a small portion of the length. Is there any way of using the program to calibrate the entirety of the photo? Would it, for example, be possible to take multiple pictures of the checkboard at different positions along the length of the flume?
