open simulink project without opening all tabs

My Simulink project has previously been saved with too many open tabs.
The project will not now reopen because the PC runs out of memory trying to open all the previously open tabs (Matlab crashes)
How can I re-open my project without reopening all the tabs which were previously open when I saved the project?

You can open your Simulink Project without opening tabs by using the "load_system" function. This function loads a Simulink model, without opening any previously openened subsytem or model tabs. Once model is loaded, it can be opened by setting the appropriate parameters in MATLAB command window like shown below:
>> sys = load_system('<model>');
>> set_param(sys, 'Open', 'on');
