That is the reason I told you to learn about matlab indexing:
>> x=2;
>> A=rand(4)
A =
0.9516 0.2691 0.4177 0.6663
0.9203 0.4228 0.9831 0.5391
0.0527 0.5479 0.3015 0.6981
0.7379 0.9427 0.7011 0.6665
>> A(:,x)
ans =
0.2691
0.4228
0.5479
0.9427
