Why do I receive a java.io.IOException error when installing MATLAB on an offline machine?

When installing MATLAB on an offline machine using ISO files, I run into an error message at 99% of the installation process:
ERROR: Error: background merge hit exception: _0(4.6):C69875 _1(4.6):C44803 _3(4.6):C29519 _4(4.6):C15713 _a(4.6):C16787 _7(4.6):C8796 _6(4.6):C7345 _9(4.6):C12472 _8(4.6):C5991 _2(4.6):C6043 _5(4.6):C1820 into _b [maxNumSegments=1]

This error is due to corrupted installation files. You will have to uninstall your corrupted installation and install it again downloading new ISO files.
The workflow below outlines the steps to perform to resolve this error:

2. Download ISO files 
You will need to be an administrator on your license in order to download ISO files.
Be aware that there are two different workflows depending on the release you wish to install: How do I download a MATLAB ISO archive?
3. Get the ISO files prepared for the installation
Once your ISO files are downloaded, you will have to perform the following actions before launching the installer:
4. Launch the installer
Mount the DVD/USB drive or access your shared network location and launch setup.exe located in the main directory.
Perform your installation as desired.
