Filter is a device that remove unwanted components and features from a signal. In Task 1, you are required to produce a signal which is a combination of three (3) sinusoidal signals oscillate at frequency of 10 Hz, 100 Hz and 200 Hz (random amplitude and phase). Show and explain the generated sinusoidal waveform, its frequency spectrum and its phase by using function subplot. Next in Task 2, you have to perform the filtering operation by using Filter Design & Analysis Tool (fdatool) and function filter. Again show and discuss the generated sinusoidal waveform, frequency spectrum and phase when
i. Signal 10 Hz is filtered out.
ii. Signal 10 Hz and 200 Hz are filtered out.
iii. Signal 200 Hz is filtered out.

This sounds like a homework assignment. If it is, show us what you've done to try to solve the problem and ask a specific question about where you're having difficulty and we may be able to offer some guidance.

  1. use s1 = a1*sin(w1*t+phi1), where w1=2*pi*f1 and t is time vector to generate signal 1. Do the the same for signal 2 and 3 and add them together. you can use randn to generate randon number.
  2. use fft() to get spectrum

Look at the first example in the documentation for fft()
