Aligning a stack of images

I have 40 images in a stack that make up a video.

I need the images to be (near) perfectly aligned. At the moment there are very small movements between each image in the stack.

I have tried using Intensity-based Automatic Image Registration and Automated Feature Detection and Matching. However, these two techniques don't seem appropriate for the small scale alignments that I require.

Is there a technique better suited for aligning to correct small drifts? Or some suggestions to get the above mentioned techniques to work?

It is possible with the Image Processing Toolbox and/or Computer Vision Toolbox.
