Unable to launch MATLAB. 'MATLAB -query' returned error code: 1

1 view (last 30 days)
I'm trying to set-up MATLAB on a Windows HPC; we are using a mix of MATALB versions.
With MATLAB 2019a, the parallel profile validates OK but earlier versions of MATALB (2016b,2015a,2012b) I get the following message within some of the text files:
Unable to launch MATLAB. 'MATLAB -quary' returned error code: 1
What does this message mean and how do I fix it?

What exactly are you trying to do when you receive that error? Does it occur when you're trying to start MATLAB, when trying to start a parallel pool, when trying to run a specific function, etc.?

I'm trying to validate MATLAB (2016b,2015a,2012b) parallel profiles. A number of legacy simulink models use earlier versions on MATLAB.
The first step, connecting the head-node works OK, but the next steps fail. MATLAB tries the 2nd and 3rd steps, but both fail almost instantly.
All cluster job data is deleted from job** directories, but managed to read error the above message before the files was deleted.
Note: I have been able to validate my MATLAB 2019a parallel profile and submit very simple tasks.
