Matlab R2018b freezes on splash screen in Ubuntu 18.04

5 views (last 30 days)
I have been using Ubuntu 18.04 since a month now. I have to switch to windows only due to MATLAB, since my efforts to make MATLAB work on Ubuntu have failed miserably. Everytime I install MATLAB (I have tried installing R2020b and R2018b) I get the splash screen after installation- THIS freezes the ENTIRE SYSTEM and I have to force a reboot.
For the people who have used MATLAB in Ubuntu 18.04, please help me here.
Here are my laptop specifications: Dell Inspiron 5575
RAM: 8GB
Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 2200U
Graphic Processor: AMD Radeon Vega 3
Matlab works fine with -nojvm option. It freezes the entire system with -nodesktop option.
Thanks in advance

I believe this to be a Java issue as -nojvm flag works fine, maybe try changing the JVM, refer the following:

Hello
I tried changing the environment and I realised the new JDK I installed had different folder distributions than what MATLAB was expecting. The attached image shows the "unable to find java library error once I downgraded to java 8. (My default configuration was java 11) I tried to solve this issue by copying the required files in the right path as shown in the error. Upon doing that I was able to launch MATLAB, but the splash screen freezing did not go away. Entire system froze, and again I had to do a reboot.
Please let me know what could be the possible issues.
I have also attached the jvm folder screenshot. The jre folder contents were copied to the java-8-openjdk-amd64 folder to match the required path.
