Why doesn't "solve" work on my MLab(student)

e.g.
EDU>> [x,y] = solve('x+2*y=4','2*x - y=3') Undefined function 'solve' for input arguments of type 'char'.

Because your version of Matlab does not include the Symbolic Math Toolbox.

and you'll be shown all installed toolboxes.

Symbolic Toolbox is included in the Student Version of MATLAB, but it is not installed by default. Go back to your installation media and install it from there.
