How to detect features of a 3D Face Scan?

I have a collection of 3D face scans which are in .stl / .wrl format.

What I need to do is identify the location coordinates of several features on the face. E.g. Tip of nose, center of eye, chin etc.

Is there a way to do this in Matlab or Python? I don't need a full example but any pointers in the right direction would be extremely helpful as I am new to this area and Matlab.
