How to run MATLAB code in Mathematica?

A quick google search suggests two options:
  1. Translate the code to Mathematica
  2. Use a tool like matlink (I don't know if that still works, the last update on their github page was 4 years ago and the code itself seems unchanged in the last 8 years)

How to translate the code?
By learning Mathematica and re-implementing what you have written in that languague. There doesn't seem to be an obvious shortcut.
https://library.wolfram.com/infocenter/MathSource/577/ converts Mathematica syntax to MATLAB. It does not match all library names.
