Unable to run activate_matlab.sh to resolve License Manager Error-9 in Ubuntu

When I try to run the activate_matlab.sh in Ubuntu 18.04 to resolve the License Manager error-9 I get this "Error: Could not find or load main class com.mathworks.activationclient.ActivationApplication". Please advise on how to proceed

This error can be resolved by renaming or resetting your MathWorks preference directory in the user application data folder.
