Matlab 7.12.0 won't display anything in the "Workspace" window

Apparently when I end variables into the command window they are suppose to get stored in the workspace window but they don't. No matter what I do I have been unable to view anything in the workspace window. For example if I typed, A = 5, and hit the enter key everything works out the way it's suppose to but information on the new variable I just defined doesn't show up in the workspace window and apparently it's suppose to. How do I fix this and why is it happening? Thank you for any help

Type this into the command window:
clc
workspace
m=1 % No semicolon
Tell us if you see the workspace panel appear (even if it's empty), and if you see anything in the command window.
