EN 50716, EN 50128, and EN 50657
High-integrity systems developed within the railway industry must demonstrate compliance with the CENELEC standard EN 50716:2023.
EN 50716 (Railway Applications: Requirements for Software Development) replaces EN 50128 and EN 50657, including their amendments. EN 50716 introduces a unified framework for railway software development. The standard applies to both signaling and control software and onboard rolling stock software, which were previously subject to EN 50128 and EN 50657, respectively. EN 50716 categorizes railway software functions into five integrity levels, ranging from Basic Integrity (BI) to SIL 4.
EN 50716 mandates tool classification and tool qualification for support software tools used throughout software development. Embedded Coder, MATLAB and Simulink verification tools, and Polyspace code verification tools are qualified and certified with TÜV SÜD assessments in accordance with EN 50716. These assessments cover SIL 1 to SIL 4 applications. The qualifications are based on application-specific verification workflows.
IEC Certification Kit provides the workflow documentation, TÜV SÜD certificates, and additional tools and artifacts for EN 50716.
