May 2025 Ransomware Incident

On May 18, 2025, MathWorks experienced a ransomware attack that resulted in a disruption to some of our systems. We notified the FBI of this incident. This was a financially motivated, commodity ransomware attack, not the work of a nation state. Together with our outside cybersecurity experts, we have fully contained this incident. The last threat actor activity observed was on May 18, and we have seen no new threat actor activity as we continue to monitor our network.

Our forensic investigation, conducted alongside outside cybersecurity experts, is now complete. There is no evidence of threat activity or behavior that would cause us to caution our customers to block installations of our software releases or restrict other interactions with the mathworks.com domain, including the use of our customer online applications, online systems and other services shown on status.mathworks.com, and email.

In addition to our forensic investigation, we have worked with outside cybersecurity experts to deploy mitigation and remediation measures. As we move beyond this incident, we will continue to work with these experts to assess and harden the security of our network and systems.
