figure, imshow(ref), title('Input Image');
A=imnoise(ref,'salt & pepper', 0.02);
figure,imshow(A), title('InputImage with Noise');

Which Matlab version you are using?
This function imse(Mean Square Error) was introduced in 2014b onwards.
