The basic function of Matlab?

I have a coworker who works in an universiy. My coworker fabricates a hardware interface to connect a laptop and creates a program using Matlab for data aquisition, dynamic graphic, and save data. Now I would like to install them in my laptop. Therefore, I want to purchase a Matlab licence to run the program. What type of licence may meet my requirement? Thanks.

Do you have a need to use MATLAB to further process the data acquired, plot, etc., or is all the functionality you require built into the application?
If the latter you may not need a MATLAB license at all -- it is possible your coworker can build an executable application that you can install and run. This would depend upon just what the application does and there are some limitations on what can be packaged as standalone, so the above isn't guaranteed, but is at least a possibility.
Otherwise, you'll need the coworker to tell you which toolboxes he's using besides base MATLAB; most everything is available in the student license if you qualify for it; that will certainly be the cheapest option by far if do have to have MATLAB to make things work.
I appreciate your answer. I will forward your answers to my cowork. I am not qualified for a student licence. I am wondering if stardard licence ($860 annual licence) make thing work. Thanks.
Well, the hardware interface will undoubtedly require at least that Toolbox; the rest will just depend upon how exotic he got in developing the code...and there's no way to guess; he'll just have to let you know.
You mentioned the co-worker works in a university. If you are working together, is it on a non-profit project being run from the university? If so then maybe you would be eligible to use an Educational license.
I do work in non-profit organization: California Medical Innovations Institute. How can I know if I am eligible to use an Educational lincese?
It does not sound like the circumstances are right for an Educational license for this purpose. You would need to effectively be working for a university project -- not as a collaborator but as an employee or contractor (or volunteer).

I recommend you contact the Sales team using the link just below the search box near the upper-left corner of this page and describe in more detail what you want to do using MATLAB. They can discuss what products would be useful for you and what license type would best suit your needs.
