MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge
MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge is a mathematical modeling contest for high school students sponsored by MathWorks and organized by SIAM. M3 Challenge spotlights applied mathematics as a powerful problem-solving tool, a viable and exciting profession, and a vital contributor to advances in an increasingly technical society.
The contest introduces high school students to applied mathematics by giving them an opportunity to work in teams to tackle a real-world problem under time and resource constraints akin to those faced by industrial applied mathematicians. Teams are presented with a previously unknown problem scenario, and should work together, using the math modeling process to represent, analyze, make predictions and otherwise provide insight into that real-world phenomena and the posed problem’s questions.
